Adventures in Groceries

Went shopping today, Found out my local Publix has expanded their "Ethnic Food Aisle" to include sizable British and Indian sections.. So now I can get all the HP Sauce and IronBru I want.. to go along with 40lb bags of Basmati Rice and endless tubs of Tikka Masala Sauce.

I was quite excited.. No more having to make the long round trip to the British Import store to get condiments.. I can just go 7 miles down the road and get them.

In a related note from the other day, I managed to get a refund for one of those book club editions, still haven't heard from the other person yet..

Adventures in Food.

I went to Cost plus World Market on Wednesday as well, I got some UK eatables to tide me over until i get to go over again. I got some Rhubarb jam which is lovely. But my friend.. well he got some Vegemite.. Hes a huge fan of Men at Work you see.. and has been curious about the stuff for years.. I being the idiot that I am.. agreed to eat some of it..

So we came back to my place and I made some buttered toast and a pot of tea.. He ate the stuff while I was out of the room.. so I didn't get to see his reaction.. I didn't have very high expectations due to not liking Marmite in the UK..

I thought from the ingredients that it would be a bit more beerish.. sweet and malty like Guinness Jam almost.. But It wasn't. needless to say from all this blather.. Vegimite is not near the top of list of things I wish to eat again. It was way to salty for my taste, but didn't seem to have much else in the way of flavor.. it reminded me of the really cheap margarine you get here in the US which comes in a wheel covered in waxpaper.

No offense to any Australians who are reading this, but you guys can keep that stuff.

Gift Day, Yule Feast.

I don't Celebrate Christmas.. Never accuse me of such a thing.

I celebrate Yuletide and keep a Light burning during the last 2 weeks of December. But I do Celebrate Gift Day, the totally Secular holiday of mass consumerism. Or as I also like to call it, pants and socks day.

My Yule-hoard this year consisted of 4 pair of pants, 4 sweaters, 6 pair of socks, 2 shirts, 1 pair of pajama pants, 1 tri-fold wallet, some various grooming products, a copy of Warcraft 3 battle chest( to be reviewed later), the last 3 books I needed to complete my " Sharpe " series (also to be reviewed later), a Calender with Japanese Wood Block print art in it and a plethora of assorted cookies, biscuits, sweets and treats. It was a very good year this year. I hope everyone else is having as good as I did.

I also received, a SERIOUSLY AWESOME GIFT from a friend, SERIOUS SAM HD from STEAM download service.

Now Just waiting for my Yule Boar to cook in the oven to complete the day, Much ale will be drunk, much pork will be consumed, and then comes the yule-feast nap.
