Gee, I never knew that about myself.

That I apparently hate everything new and only really love reading Dragonlance novels.
I'm so glad someone posting under the inventive handle of "Anonymous" could explain that apparent failure on my part.. here I was thinking I'd only read 3 Dragon lance novels ever.. when Apparently I read "Empire state building sized stacks" of them..

Ahh well, the world is full of idiots, with the Internet being the triple distilled tipple of the world.. I suppose I was fated to run across one sooner than later.

I'm gonna go burn another stack of books from Abercrombie and Sykes and Morgan, Tain't good for naught 'cept the hearth. Certainly ain't worth the readin'.

Greg, You got that right.

Apperently I'm also angry that a 25 year old got published and i didn't.. though I'm the same age as Sam Sykes..

But see, I don't do work unless I'm guaranteed to get paid for it.. so writing a novel is straight out of the question. I have no guarantee of being paid for it.. so I'm not going to put the work in to write it. It's a totally different proposition than writing one and then not getting it published and being bitter about it..

I just consider writing a book is too much like playing blackjack.. chances are you won't ever win and in the process you will get really frustrated and lose your shirt.

It's really wild though to have people telling me these things about myself that I just had no idea about..

Best not to let them get their ego-goo on you, Lag. Not worth the dry-cleaning!

absolutely not worth it, I agree.. I mostly am just endlessly amused by it..

Oh, i have to ask.. What sort of.. species would a Gorgon be.. I was under the impression they were reptilian.. so how do they produce milk?

Greg Gorgonmilk said...

Depends on who ya ask! Medusa was one of the Greek gorgons. In the AD&D Monster Manual the gorgon is a bull-like thing that breathes noxious vapors. In the movie Zathura -- which my son and I have seen countless times -- the ZORGONS are reptilian space marauders. So the possibilities are endless really. Personally I like the idea of a milk that comes from reptilian monsters. Rather than nourishing the body like human breast- or cow-milk, perhaps it nourishes dreams? Or at least troubles them...

well.. they do Milk snakes for venom don't they..

Oh, excellent point. You have to wonder then:

Is the gorgon-milk
coming from the Medusa's teats
or from the snakes atop her head?
For the first is good to drink
But the last will make you dead.

Lagomorph Rex said...

maybe its like the Maassai people.. they mix the cow blood with the milk in large cylinder vessels then drink it.

So.. a gorgon cult would collect both sorts.. perhaps the one some what counteracts the effects of the other leading to a state of paralyzation and euphoria..

Ah, so a sort of alchemical psychotrope that brings two opposites into balance. Fantastic idea! I'm cribbing notes. The Cult of the Gorgon! Incidentally, have you read Thomas Ligotti's "The Medusa"?

Lagomorph Rex said...

I have not, though i have heard of Ligotti back when I was seriously into my Lovecraft phase.. I seem to remember having looked at the Conspiracy against the human race a time or too..

Greg Gorgonmilk said...

I have yet to get my hands on Conspiracy, but I've read every bit of his fiction aside from a few obscure pieces. Thematically he's a deal more nihilistic than Lovecraft, whose horror tends to give way to wonder. With Ligotti it's more along the lines of a troubling dream giving way to a waking nightmare. I definitely appreciate his stuff more when I'm feeling depressed. It accentuates the eerie/dreary quality that TL is so skilled at evoking.

Ahh, I see, well then in that case.. it sounds like something that would work in adverse of my doctor prescribed anti-anxiety meds.. and so i should probably avoid it.. though I cannot help but be intrigued..

Yes, you may get into TL a little *too much* -- he tends to make me anxious anyway. His horrors are philosophical for the most part. They seem much more feasible than your Monster Matinee variety bogeys.
